Windstar Cruises is set to breathe new life into its beloved sailing ship, the Wind Surf, with an extensive renovation program starting this November in Cadiz, Spain. Scheduled to unveil its refreshed design on December 21, the ship’s upgrade is characterized by a commitment to luxury and sophistication that aligns with the expectations of discerning travelers. This initial round of renovations centers on revitalizing suites and public spaces, promising an enriching experience for guests onboard.
In a bid to create an atmosphere reminiscent of the luxury found at high-end resorts, such as The Broadmoor in Colorado and Sea Island in Georgia — both owned by the Anschutz family, which also owns Windstar Cruises — the Wind Surf will introduce new suites designed to echo the opulence of these destinations. One significant change is the renaming of the Officer’s Suite to the Owner’s Suite, which will boast an “elevated nautical look,” transforming it into an elegant space that reflects the ship’s maritime heritage while enhancing comfort and aesthetic appeal.
The dining experience on Wind Surf is set for a remarkable upgrade, particularly with the redesign of the main dining room, Amphora. This space is set to embrace the essence of the sea through design elements akin to pearls and sea glass, evoking the natural beauty of the ocean. Enhanced by new seating arrangements that accommodate both intimate gatherings and larger parties, the dining experience merges form and function.
Additionally, the ship’s Compass Rose restaurant will feature a fresh decor scheme adorned with vibrant pops of blue and orange, alongside a multipurpose stage area designed for live music. Such innovations not only enhance the visual appeal but also create multifaceted environments where guests can enjoy diverse experiences throughout their voyage.
As Windstar Cruises focuses on enhancing guest experience, many public areas will receive a comprehensive facelift. The lobby, for example, will transform into a more inviting space reflective of a boutique hotel, providing ample seating options to accommodate guest interactions and relaxation. A larger retail area will mimic the elegance of a luxury brand store, allowing guests an elevated shopping experience while onboard.
The renovations also extend to the pool deck and bar area, featuring a natural palette reminiscent of beach landscapes. New tiling designed to mimic ocean waves will enhance the pool’s visual aspect, further immersing guests in a coastal ambiance central to Windstar’s identity.
This refurbishment of the Wind Surf is the first of several phases as part of a comprehensive, multiyear initiative aimed at modernizing all three Wind-class ships—Wind Surf, Wind Star, and Wind Spirit. Future phases of renovations are anticipated to further enhance staterooms and additional amenities, ensuring that Windstar Cruises maintains its dedication to luxury and comfort. As the shipping industry evolves, Windstar remains committed to elevating the standards of luxury cruising, providing unforgettable experiences at sea that reflect both beauty and sophistication.
