The growth in tourism on the island is already evident, with over 339,000 tourists recorded in 2023—a remarkable 37% increase from the preceding year, according to Statista. This increase is part of Dominica’s broader goal to reach half a million annual stayover tourists and one million cruise visitors by 2030. The closure of the 2023-24 cruise season saw a total of 306,601 cruise passengers, depicting an 11% increase over the previous year and a substantial 62% rise since pre-pandemic figures in 2019-20.

For the current cruise season, forecasts predict 230 cruise calls and the arrival of 365,311 passengers, marking increases of 8.5% and 19% respectively. Complementing these efforts is the ongoing development of the Cabrits Marina, a $75 million investment situated in Portsmouth. This facility will support yachts up to 150 feet long and include a marine village that offers shopping and dining experiences.

Recognizing that efficient air travel is a critical factor for boosting arrivals, the island’s government has made significant improvements to the Douglas-Charles Airport. The completion of a 6,000-foot runway extension enables access for larger planes and mitigates disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions.
